Well the ITM Cup is up and running and it has been a big learning curve for our young team. BUT, as we know, a week is a long time in rugby and it was proven again on Saturday night when Auckland were sent packing by a dominant Canterbury team.  Go the Red and Black Machine!
A good contingent from the Auckland Rugby Supporters Club ventured down for the game and we enjoyed meeting up with old and new friends.  They did concede that Canterbury were the better team on the night.  Go Canterbury!
Honorary Member, Sir Colin Meads visited us on Saturday night.  He was given the task of choosing the Player of the Day.  Congratulations Colin Slade, as Sir Colin said “A great game and a great name”.
Another very popular visitor to the clubrooms this week was Sonny Bill Williams.  He was a big hit with the members especially the young ones and the ladies!  The cameras were very busy.  Dick Tayler had the privilege of introducing Sir Colin to Sonny Bill, and it was a special moment for us all to witness.

We also get to keep the “Supporters Cup” which is played for each year between Auckland and Canterbury during the NPC.  This was the 20th year the cup had been on the line.

Thank you to Penns for his “debriefs” after the game, we all enjoy the honest evaluations and we loved his comment “The Best Supporters Club in the World”! A BIG thank you to the players who have come up to the club after our home games – a good group of young men who are always happy to have a chat, have photos taken, and sign autographs. After the North Harbour game we hosted the players’ families. It was a real pleasure to meet the Mums, Dads and other family members who were all beaming with pride. Some have now joined the CRSC and we look forward to meeting them again soon.

A great Father’s Day gift idea The A-Z of Meads by Keith Quin.  We hear the book launch in Christchurch was a great success.  Dick will have some copies, which are signed by both Sir Colin Meads and Keith Quinn, at the Cant v BOP game on Friday night. Copies will also be available at the 40th Anniversary Dinner and Sir Colin will happily write a personal message in the book for you.

The Committee has said farewell to our Chairman, Major Roger Hovenden who is deploying with the NZ Army. He has done a great job interviewing the players when Dick has been away. We will miss him and we wish him safe travels. Roger will be our furthermost outpost of the Canterbury Rugby Supporters Club.

Some of the Committee and members went along to the Burnside Debate last Friday night. What a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Well done to the organisers. If any other Clubs would like their events sent out to our members please contact Cathie Anderson 964 8842 day or 354 1265.
